JSC BIRIU KROVINIU TERMINALAS specialises in handling bulk mineral fertilisers. The terminal has been continuously working towards applying the latest technologies, equipment, infrastructure and enhancing human resources. Since the beginning of company’s activities the total investment to the terminal development has topped 105 million euros.

History

Company was established
- 1997
February. The first wagon unloading station started operation
- 2002
The first ship – VOLGO-BALT 138 was loaded at the terminal; During the first year of company’s operation 400 000 tonnes of cargo have been loaded into ships
- 2002
May. The first million tonnes of cargo were loaded into ships
- 2004
June. The biggest vessel “FULL COMFORT” was loaded (71 000 tonnes capacity)

Installation of container stuffing technology

Launch of the first bulk fertiliser packaging line

Annual ship loading amount exceeded 2 million tonnes

Construction of the second wagon unloading station

Annual ship loading amount exceeded 6 million tonnes, while container stuffing surpassed 1 million tonnes

Terminal area expanded to 19 ha

Facts and figures

JSC BIRIU KROVINIU TERMINALAS began its operations in 1997, making it one of the youngest Klaipeda port companies. Since then, JSC BKT has become the biggest terminal in the port of Klaipeda and one of the most efficient stevedoring companies in Europe. In the last decade alone, the terminal’s fertilizer handling increased 7 times in terms of the number of tonnes handled.
